Since its inception in 1982, LDI program efforts first centered on working with a multitude of state and local agencies to provide short-term, rapid turnover services for clients with LD and related emotional/behavioral disorders. LDI is an organization of high moral purpose. Its services and focus on the future are driven by students and their needs, recognition of global market changes and its impact on the LDI students, and ultimately making a positive difference in the lives of each student and their families.

Students arrive at LDI with a wide spectrum of issue, goals, and objectives. The LDI staff work with students to identify and understand both their personal assets and limitations-not just in the realm of disabilities, but as human beings. This approach assists in students understanding how to develop the self-awareness needed to face the challenges of the adult world.

At LDI, students have opportunities to learn to build personal organizational skills, planning/prioritizing important time management/scheduling with staff. Then, it is expected for the students to put this knowledge and information into practical application. These are some of the skills need to carry on daily adult lives beyond the program.

LDI is a residential special education school with programs serving young adults 17 and above who have a learning disorder, learning disabilities, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, NLD, nonverbal learning disorders, PDD-NOS, and other related disorders.
